FAQ

Q: Is it painful?

A:  For most patients, it’s common to feel nothing more than a slight pinch from Acupuncture needles. You don’t need to worry about pain from Acupuncture needles during your appointment.

Q: Can I get an infection?

A:  There is no risk of infection during an Acupuncture session. The needles for each patient are new, sterile and disposable. Needles are never reused on a different patient.

Q: Where are the needles placed?

A:  It depends on the condition being treated. The needles are gently inserted into specific points on your body called acupoints. Common acupoints are on the arms, legs, lower back or stomach area.

Q: How does acupuncture work?

A: Acupuncture operates through numerous pathways, backed by extensive research and evidence validating its therapeutic advantages. In essence, acupuncture enhances blood circulation, reduces inflammation, triggers the release of pain- and stress-relieving hormones like endorphins and enkephalins, and optimizes the body's self-healing capabilities. A skilled acupuncturist employs acupuncture needles to recalibrate the brain, resetting the autonomic nervous system and harnessing the body's innate internal resources to alleviate pain and facilitate healing.

Q: How can acupuncture and herbal medicine benefit me?

A: Acupuncture and herbal medicine effectively address pain, stress, and a spectrum of internal disorders, encompassing digestive issues, hypertension, menstrual cramps, menopausal symptoms, fibroids, prostate enlargement, infertility, and autoimmune disorders, among others. These modalities frequently restore natural bodily functions, often reducing reliance on surgeries and pharmaceuticals with potential side effects. Patients commonly report enhancements in sleep quality, immunity, energy levels, mental clarity, and mood as well.

Q: How often do I need treatment?

A:  Weekly Acupuncture treatments are typical for many patients. Two treatments a week for acute pain, chronic pain or other serious conditions is common. During your first appointment we’ll discuss a plan that is best for your specific needs.

As an effective preventive medicine, acupuncture is recommended once or twice a week for stress management, relaxation, and overall health maintenance.

Q: Is there anything I need to do before my appointment?

A:  Avoid anything that might cause stress so you are calm during your Acupuncture session. We recommend avoiding caffeine and smoking before your appointment. It’s best to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothes so you can relax and it will be easy to place needles as needed.

Q: Is acupuncture a placebo therapy?

A: The placebo effect is present in all branches of medicine. Numerous studies have demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture and herbal medicine in managing pain, stress, infertility, and a range of health issues. Compelling evidence supporting acupuncture also originates from studies conducted on animals, where the placebo effect is not applicable due to their unawareness of acupuncture treatment. Remarkably, some of the most compelling testimonials I've received regarding acupuncture's effectiveness have come from my veterinarian patients, who have witnessed its miraculous effects on animals.

Q: What if I am afraid of acupuncture needles?

A: If acupuncture isn't your preference, we offer herbal medicine prescriptions for various health conditions. In some cases, herbal medicine proves more effective than acupuncture.
